Art Martin

Chief Executive Officer

Art has been part of the Handmaker team since 2004. Since his start as Chief Operating Officer, he has successfully streamlined various business processes and effectively transformed the organization. In January of 2008, he became Chief Executive Officer, leading the growth, expansion and innovation for Handmaker. Previously, Art held an operations position with Kindred Healthcare, a Fortune 500 senior living company. Before his work at Kindred Healthcare, Art served as a skilled nursing inspection specialist for the Arizona Department of Health Services.

Art obtained his undergraduate degree from Wayne State University. In 1998, he relocated to Tucson to pursue a Master’s degree in Public Health from the Mel and Enid Zuckerman School of Public Health at the University of Arizona. He returned to the University of Arizona for specialized training in the business of healthcare and received an MBA from the Eller College of Management.

Gary Lochowitz

Gary Lochowitz

Vice President of Operations/Administrator

Serving Handmaker for more than 10 years, Gary has worked in the healthcare field for more than 25 years and brings a wealth of experience working with older adults and the unique challenges they face.

He began his career counseling inner city teenagers in Chicago. After that, he spent nearly 15 years abroad in England, working with developmentally disabled adults, adults with mental illness and managed a residential home and day center for elderly adults.

Upon his return to the United States in 2004, Gary joined Handmaker as Director of Care Management and became the Director of Assisted Living and Community Services the following year.

Gary has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received a diploma in Higher Education in Social Care Management and a National Vocational Qualification in Management (Level 4) from the University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom.

Michelle Kroeger

Chief Financial Officer

With more than 25 years in finance, Michelle brings extensive experience in the non-profit world to Handmaker as a certified public accountant. She has an unparalleled ability to work under pressure on a multitude of tasks, all with precision, accuracy and leadership.

Prior to joining Handmaker, Michelle served as Chief Financial Officer for Beacon Group for eight years.

Becky Norsworthy

Becky Norsworthy

Director of Nursing Services

Becky joined Handmaker in April of 2013 with nearly four decades of experience in skilled nursing and hospital care for people of all ages. After relocating to Tucson from northern Maine in 2001, Becky has focused exclusively on post-acute and long-term skilled nursing care.

She began her career as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Licensed Practical Nurse before completing her education as a Registered Nurse. Becky has a special interest in caring for patients with wounds and is certified in wound care and assessment.

Cydney Turner

Cydney Turner

Marketing/Admissions Coordinator

Cydney is passionate about the senior living industry, with extensive personal and professional senior care experience to Handmaker. She has a unique ability to offer compassion and guidance to seniors and their families and the situations they face in the aging process.

Born and raised in Tucson, Cydney knows the community well and utilizes all her resources to make sure that each resident finds the right care and personal assistance they need.

Alan Sanchez

Alan Sanchez

Director of Food and Facility Services

Alan has been in the food service industry for over 30 years. His culinary experience includes several four and five diamond hotels, resorts, private clubs and restaurants in Arizona and Hawaii. He also brings vast experience from his service as executive chef at several Tucson fine dining restaurants including Daniels, The Tack Room and The Lodge at Ventana Canyon.

Alan was the opening chef at local favorite Pastiche, and was co-owner of two other restaurants in Tucson, Stix and San Remo, the latter of which was given the “Silver Spoon Award,” recognizing it as one of the top 10 restaurants in Tucson. In Hawaii, Alan was the Executive Chef for Las Sirenas restaurant at the Westin Kauai and for Swan Court, which was the fine dining restaurant at the Hyatt Regency Maui.

Alan has been with Handmaker for over nine years as Director of Food Services. He also oversees Facility Services, which includes Environmental Services, IT and Maintenance Departments for the Handmaker family of care.

Rachel Dorf

Rachel Dorf

Human Resources Director

Rachel began her career at Handmaker as a volunteer in the HR department. Her passion and dedication resulted in her hiring in 1997. After nine years, she became the Director of Human Resources in 2006. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is an active member of the Society for Human Resource Management.
